American Home Makeover

Monday, April 28, 2008

Did anybody out there see this week's American Home Makeover? It was a 2-hour episode chronicaling the new home, group living area, and community meeting space for a Vineyard pastor who is ministering in the worst parts of Albuquerque, NM.

It was pretty awesome, although they definitely were careful not to use the name of Jesus anywhere in the episode. But still, the amazing things the the Martinez family are doing there is totally "Kingdom" stuff.

Great episode, I kept getting choked up, knowing how blessed the Martinez family must have felt to finally have their own dream house. Amazing stuff.

The Office

Thursday, April 10, 2008

Wow, did The Office return from the writer's strike with a good episode, or what? My buddy, Steve, described it as "the most awkward episode ever", and I'd have to agree.

I don't want to spoil it for everyone, but the episode revolves around a dinner party at Michael and Jan's condo, and it was all seriously "over-the-top".

Now Grey's Anatomy returns in a week!

Lloyd Carr - Retiring as head coach of U of M

Monday, November 19, 2007

Lloyd is stepping down after a very rough year at Michigan. Many fellow Michigan fans have respected Carr's character, but not his coaching philosophy, and are glad to see him stepping aside for someone new to come in. Michigan, year after year, has amazing talent that is coached into mediocre results.

Having said that, Carr did bring Michigan a national championship in the 1996-1997 season, and had an excellent winning percentage. However, he perennially lost to Ohio State, and couldn't find a way to win in the Rose Bowl in the last three trips.

Now the silly season begins, and many wonder if U of M can entice LSU head coach, Les Miles to come to the program. Les played for Bo Schembechler at Michigan, and is one of the favorites to replace Carr amongts fans. The only problem is that LSU has a clause in Mile's contract that specifies that he must pay $1.2 Million to LSU if he exits his contract early to coach at Michigan. Perhaps they saw this coming in Baton Rouge??

Sweet Home Chicago....er, well, being from Northwest Indiana is kind of like being from Chicago

Wednesday, September 19, 2007

This is what Jeff Foxworthy has to say about Chicago .

1) If your local Dairy Queen is closed from September through May, you live in Chicago.
2) If someone in a Home Depot store offers you assistance and they don't work there, you live in Chicago
3) If you've worn shorts and a parka at the same time, you live in Chicago.
4) If you've had a lengthy telephone conversation with someone who dialed a wrong number, you live in Chicago.
5) If "Vacation" means going anywhere south of I-80 for the weekend, you live in Chicago .
6) If you measure distance in hours, you live in Chicago .
7) If you have switched from "heat" to "A/C" in the same day and back again, you live in Chicago .
8) If you can drive 75 mph through 2 feet of snow during a raging blizzard without flinching, you live in Chicago .
9) If you carry jumpers in your car and your wife knows how to use them, you live in Chicago.
10) If you design your kid's Halloween costume to fit over a snowsuit, you live in Chicago
11) If the speed limit on the highway is 55 mph -- you're going 80 and everybody is passing you, you live in Chicago.
12) If driving is better in the winter because the potholes are filled with snow, you live in Chicago.
13) If you know all 4 seasons: almost winter, winter, still winter and road construction, you live in Chicago.
14) If you have more miles on your snow blower than your car, you live in Chicago
15) If you find 10 degrees "a little chilly", you live in Chicago.
16) If you actually understand these jokes, and forward them to all your Chicago friends & others, you live or have lived in Chicago .

Dodgers Win

Tuesday, July 3, 2007

The Dad-in-law took me to see the Dodgers/Braves game tonite, and it rocked. The Dodgers squeaked out a win, 7-6 in a long and drawn out game! Good times. Tonite they had a special celebration to commemorate the fact that 175,000,000 people have gone to see the Dodgers play baseball.

I guess I'm one-in-one-hundred-and-seventy-five-million.

I hope everyone has a safe and fun Independence Day.

SansWire?

The iPhone craze is upon us! But I'm not buying in. I never got an iPOD, mostly because I'm a techno-geek and I just can't buy a device for $300 that is destined to have a hard disk failure after 24 months and doesn't have a user serviceable battery. Nope, the Sansdisk Sansa with it's $20 user-serviceable battery is for me!

Now the iPhone is out, and Apple has once again built the thing so that you can't replace the battery easily. C|Net reports that a battery change will cost $85 bucks or so.

How long before Sandisk designs the SansWire? I'll want one.

Back From Sierra Madre

Friday, June 29, 2007

Mis' and I just got back from Beantown in Sierra Madre. We were checkin' out Steve's show at Beantown, and were hangin' out for a while. Good times. Sierra Madre is like teleporting out of LA into a small town. I like it there. It's up on the hill northeast of Pasadena, and it's really chill up there.

The internet connection at our apartment is really slow right now for some reason. The internet guy from Charter is coming in the morning. Hopefully he can get 'er done, and get us back to 3 Megs tomorrow so I can watch Champ Car qualifying on Race Director. I guess we'll see.

G'nite from Pasadena.
