Apparently he had been taking medication but stopped and had become somewhat erratic in the last two weeks. There were no red flags. He was an outstanding student, an awarded student who was even 'revered' by faculty and fellow students. A fairly normal, undistressed person.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families as well as those who were scared beyond belief by this horrific act.

I have another thought, however. This shooting is the freaky violent act that you never see coming. It's the one in a million, like winning a hellish lottery.

I am sad about the shootings and very angry at the reporting, so I am about to rant and vent.

Random violence on this scale rarely happens. In fact it has only happened a few times this decade. -unless you watch the news, which tells us that violence will happen to all of us, and we should all stop living our lives and watch the news in order to be safer. I can't stand the news. I hate the news, in fact. IMHO, responsible reporting does not exist, it is all a ridiculous fear show to get people scared enough to watch dumb and pretty people espousing the reactionary and inflammatory crap laid out in front of them.

I am very sad that shootings happen. I am quite confident it will not happen to you or me. This has happened in few places in the country, and many more people win lotto than get shot by loons. I don't need to worry about it, and neither do you. The audacity of the broadcasters to suggest it could happen and we need to be prepared is beyond comprehension. It is revolting and disgusting and also any other big word that I can think of to express my annoyance and anger at their suggestion that we all need to be concerned about the shooting, because it could be us next.

What is the purpose of making people nervous or scared? Why bother when it is statistically not going to happen to us? Do the feeble-minded of the world who believe this crap really need something else to stress them?

I don't think they do, really.

Why not tell people to be good to each other in hopes that it might some day get better? Sunshine and happiness probably does not make for good news, I guess.

Done ranting. Sorry about that to those of you who have had to endure the same rant from me in the past.
